Towering over the pottery and lodge is Dedza Mountain at nearly 2200m. If walking up the mountain, on a clear day, there are stunning views. Lake Malawi and Mozambique can be seen to the east, and Zomba Plateau and Mulanje Mountain are in the south.

 

You can walk to the mountain peak from the pottery and lodge in a few hours. There is a rough road  to the peak which is suitable for vehicles with high clearance. There are numerous paths within the forest for those that want a more leisurely walk. We can provide picnics for those wishing to spend time on the mountain. These mountain excursions are with an experienced guide who brings raincoats and a first aid box.

 

We offer two different mountain tours. The walking times and the prices are below.

• Short hike: 1 to 4 hours; $5 per person.

• Summit hike: 5 to 7 hours; $8 per person.

• Children under 12 years old pay ½ price​ (please note: children under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult).
